The Great Debate-
In the great debate we discussed the differences between phonics and whole language. We found that there were many differences, but that students need both for it to be effective.
Whole language-
whole language focuses on the words itself. They use sight words to teach kids how to read.
This is important because student comprehend more of what they are reading instead of focusing on the letter sounds.
Systematic intensive phonics instruction-
Phonics focuses on the sounds of words.
This allows students to sound out words they are unsure of.
